Apple is working on a new functionality to improve e-Book reading on iPad. The new functionality is said to improve search and highlighting of text within an e-book, as detailed in a new patent filed by Apple.

An Apple Patent for reading improvements of e-Books on iPad

The Patent application from Apple is entitled "Creating and visualizing of digital score," according to the PDF document published today. It describes a technology regarding a floating toolbar that allow the user to quickly search text and also allow him to highlight and / or annotate text withing e-Books.

The new function described in this patent is like an improved version of what already exists in the application iBook with the difference that the search and noting function are grouped into a floating toolbar. The functionality allow also to highlight text with a selected color or even to apply a specific font selected by the user. Annotations could alos include integrated media, eg audio, HTML or hypertext link.
